  • Missouri State’s leading scorer suspended for ‘conduct detrimental to the team

After playing in just 12 games last season due to a torn ACL suffered in an overtime loss to Wichita State, Missouri State guard Marcus Marshall has been one of the best players in the Missouri Valley Conference to this point in the season.

Marshall’s averaging 19.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, shooting 45.9% from the field, 45.6% from three and nearly 90 percent from the charity stripe in 14 games played (13 starts).

Unfortunately for Marshall he won’t be on the court when the Bears take on Evansville Wednesday night, as it was reported by Lyndal Scranton of the Springfield (Illinois) News-Leader before the game that the 6-foot-3 junior has been suspended indefinitely for “conduct detrimental to the team.”

suspended indefinitely and "Marcus has removed all traces of MSU on his twitter profile". One poster seems to think that like Lusk was going to bench him, and he quit instead.

During a commercial break on ShockerVision I heard Kennedy say that the MSU beat writer mentioned Marshall having a disagreement with Lusk during practice.

Sounds like a Randy Smithson - Maurice Evans situation where the player realizes the coach is doing nothing to make him or the program better.

He'll be great at Illinois or Cal.

Would hate to see another good Valley player leave only to play well in another conference. Of course, I have no idea what he might have done or said

He will be in the big 10 in no time. This was always going to happen. It's too bad really.

We've been fortunate that we haven't had that type of problem. Problems in the locker room can really destroy a team, especially in basketball where teamwork is so important. Marshall has said before, that when recruiting a player, its as important to get a player who will fit in attitude wise as well as just his basketball skills.

Yep. Talent retention in the league is not very good.
